South Cheshire CAMRA Phoenix Award – 2026 – Travellers Rest, Alpraham

The Phoenix Award celebrates pubs that have faced significant hardship, often prolonged closure, and have successfully risen again to reopen and thrive.
The Travellers Rest was selected for this award after it was struck by an HGV. The impact caused extensive damage to the front of the building, including the loss of the original sandstone bay window mouldings.
Despite the severity of the damage, the pub remained open throughout the reconstruction, continuing to serve customers from the back room while careful restoration work took place.
The Travellers Rest is listed on CAMRA’s National Inventory of Unspoilt Pub Interiors, with an interior that offers a remarkable time‑capsule of 1930s pub design.
Now fully repaired and welcoming drinkers once again, we extend our gratitude to the team at the Travellers Rest for their dedication in keeping this important heritage pub open for locals and visitors alike.
