Nantwich Rail Ale Trail
We’re planning a brand-new Rail Ale Trail centred on Nantwich. It will be a walking pub route that puts some of the town’s finest real ale pubs within easy reach of the railway and bus station. Full details are coming soon, but read on to find out what to expect, and let us know which pubs you’d like to see included.
What’s a Rail Ale Trail?
A Rail Ale Trail is a self-guided pub walk that starts and ends at a railway station (but we will also think about those preferring to travel by bus), so you can leave the car at home and focus on the beer! The idea is simple: arrive by train (or bus), follow a suggested route to call in at a handful of hand-picked real ale pubs along the way, and catch your preferred mode of transport home again, feeling thoroughly refreshed.
If you’ve already tried our Crewe Rail Ale Trail, you’ll know exactly what to expect. The Nantwich trail will follow the same principles — a manageable walk, a varied selection of pubs, and a little local history and context along the way.
What to expect from the Nantwich trail
Starts at the station
The route will begin and end at Nantwich railway station (and will go via, or close to the bus station), making it straightforward to arrive by public transport from Crewe or further afield.
Handpicked real ale pubs
Every pub on the trail will be chosen for the quality of its cask ale offer and will be a mix of familiar favourites and the occasional hidden gem.
A walkable town-centre route
Nantwich’s compact and attractive town centre means all the pubs will be within easy walking distance of each other and the station.
History and heritage
Nantwich has a rich history stretching back to the salt trade and the Civil War. The trail guide will include a little background to enjoy between pints.
When will it launch? We’re working on the route, the content, and the printed guide now. We’ll announce the launch on the website and through our social channels — keep an eye out, and sign up to the branch newsletter to be among the first to know.
Help shape the trail. Share your suggestions
Please fill in the short form below and your suggestions will be read by the team putting the trail together.
Already love Nantwich’s real ale scene?
While you’re waiting for the trail to launch, why not explore what South Cheshire CAMRA is already up to? Our Crewe Rail Ale Trail is available now, and our Good Beer Guide page explains how you can help get your favourite Nantwich pub into next year’s guide by scoring your pint. You can also explore all the pubs in our branch area using the branch map.
